Rick Perry is allowed to disagree with his opponents and voice his beliefs anywhere he pleases. But to lambast the entire LGBT community with a cowardly campaign video that disguises his gross ignorance, fear, and hate with silly American-Flag-Pin phrases as “Faith made America strong. It can make her strong again.” that’s just flat out lying.
And, I’m sorry, who did what now? Faith made American strong? lol, Rick Perry, good joke. Seriously though, hard won justice, equality, and tolerance are what make our country a little bit less of the giant shit pile that it is. “there’s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school.” I think we have a few more urgent problems than a totally invented “War on Christmas.” Rick, if you’re worried about schools maybe you should be talking to congress and our nations educators, not to gays in the military.
What with congress allowing pizza to be considered a vegetable in schools, the supreme court making corporations people, and California deciding that not every tax-paying, hard-working citizen deserves the right to marry the person they love; we might as well be in a hilariously stupid distopian novel. Not to mention the sneaky bastards in the Senate pushing through an act that could allow American citizens to be detained indefinitely, without trial, based on the mere suspicion of affiliation with al-Qaida or terrorism against the U.S.
The thing is, we aren’t in a humorous, distopian novel. This is our reality, and I mean, what the fuck?! No wonder people are collecting in the streets! They’re even doing so in an amazingly nonviolent, well-spoken, and organized fashion (for a group of angry randos)! No wonder congress declared the country a battleground; they’re shaking in their patent leather loafers! And the goombas disguised as police sent to “control, contain, and protect”, they behave like criminals! Aren’t these people trained professionals? Aren’t they accountable for their actions; for their transgressions against basic human rights? Shouldn’t we expect more decorum from our law enforcement than we do from a kooky bunch of occupiers? I love reading about people who are “disappointed in the protesters.” BE DISAPPOINTED IN THE POLICE WHO CAN’T EVEN PERFORM THEIR DUTIES PROPERLY. I mean, come on!
As a final thought, we should get upset and get active again in our government and legislative system. As fucked up as everything is, we still have a great deal of power in our hands as voters, as tax-payers, and as people if we’re willing to work together. So, write a well-worded letter to your representative and to your local newspaper. Get out there and hold an angry sign for a while, it feels good. Maybe shout a little, if nothing else, it helps expell some of that pent-up frustration. Just avoid shouting at your friends and family over the holidays, they don’t really appreciate it as I’ve discovered. ;)
Ok, I’m done.
P.S. if you’re here because of the tag involving pizza, LOL suckas!
